Multnomah County reopens new and improved Southeast Health Center

Multnomah County will open a new health clinic and pharmacy for southeast Portland residents on Monday, April 22.

The Southeast Health Center, 3653 S.E. 34th, will now offer primary care, behavioral health, pharmacy, laboratory and other support services in addition to the existing dental clinic at that location.

Multnomah County's Board of Commissioners on Thursday, April 25 unanimously approved an ordinance designed to keep guns away from children and put some limits on where loaded guns can be carried or discharged.


Public health heroes honored for making a difference

The first time Alazar Manning raised money to end AIDS in Portland, the 8-year-old boy asked his dad Rob and his neighbor, Selma, to donate to AIDS Walk Portland which benefits the Cascade AIDS Project. Then he went to his dad’s address book and started calling people. He raised $800.


Multnomah Youth Commission now accepting applications for 2013-2014 term

The Multnomah Youth Commission is now recruiting Youth Commissioners for its 2013-2014 term. Young people between the ages of 13-21 who are interested in policy, activism and community organizing are encouraged to apply for membership.

Applications are due by Monday, April 29.   


Board supports Sheriff's policy on immigration holds

The Board of County Commissioners has unanimously approved a resolution supporting Multnomah County Sheriff Dan Staton’s decision to stop complying with federal immigration holds for low-level offenders in county jails.  

The board’s action at its regular meeting April 4 supports the change in policy taking effect April 15.


County launches interactive site to celebrate Broadway Bridge Centennial

In honor of the Broadway Bridge's upcoming 100th birthday on Monday, April 22, Multnomah County recently launched a website called HappyBirthdayBroadwayBridge.com.

Visitors to the website can learn about the Broadway Bridge’s history; get details about the celebration on Sunday, April 21 being hosted by the PDX Bridge Festival; and post fond memories and birthday well-wishes about the Broadway Bridge right on the homepage of the site.
