Loretta Smith was elected Multnomah County commissioner for District 2 in November 2010. Loretta has lived in District 2 for the past 23 years and is committed to advancing her priorities of job creation, senior and youth services’ protection, and increasing the federal resources for Multnomah County.

After graduating from Oregon State University with a degree in communications in 1987, Loretta began working as a staff member for Congressman Ron Wyden. Loretta continued to work for now Senator Wyden as his Multnomah County Field Representative, focusing her efforts on connecting federal resources to the needs of Multnomah County.

Committed to community involvement, Loretta has served as treasurer of the Oregon Assembly for Black Affairs, tutored students at Self Enhancement Inc., served on the PTA, and worked with the Community Builders program for urban young men. Loretta has also been active in helping the Oregon Food Bank, Head Start and the Boys and Girls Club.

Loretta and her son Jordan, who currently attends the University of Washington, live in the Woodlawn neighborhood in Northeast Portland.
