NW Thompson Road closure update

A short section of NW Thompson Road remains closed between NW Cornell Road and NW Skyline Blvd. due to a landslide that occurred in 2011. Multnomah County has completed the landslide repair and repaved the road in the repair zone. However, more tasks need to be completed before the road can be reopened:

Dear Friends, The Multnomah County Library has just announced this year's Everybody Reads book - The Girl Who Fell from the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow. Everybody Reads is based on a simple idea - if everybody read the same book at the same time we could have a community conversation and gain a deeper understanding of what we're reading from a variety of different perspectives.

Dear Friends, I majored in English, not math or economics, but it doesn't take a special degree to realize that the impacts of the recession are hitting our community hard. Two startling things happened last week that really painted the picture for me of how much people in our community are hurting.


Board of Commissioners moves to help homeless families in crisis

With record numbers of children and families being turned away from overwhelmed shelters, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously agreed on Thursday, Dec. 22 to expand safe places to sleep. The board approved $788,000 in emergency spending to add beds at shelters and move more families into permanent housing. But most of the money will provide rent assistance to keep families from being evicted in the first place.
