Deborah Kafoury, Commissioner District 1
Deborah Kafoury was elected to serve as the Multnomah County Commissioner for District 1, representing inner Southeast Portland and the entire west side of Portland from the Sellwood Bridge to Sauvie Island.
Now entering her fifth year as Commissioner, Deborah has worked on array of issues including housing and homelessness, domestic violence, healthcare, transportation and land use planning and funding for our libraries. She is most proud of her efforts to address family homelessness in Multnomah County and secure funding to replace the Sellwood Bridge.
Currently, Deborah is leading the effort to replace the Sellwood Bridge and address seismic and safety issues of the County’s Downtown Courthouse. She is the Board representative on the Portland Children’s Levy Allocation Committee and Co-Chairs the Domestic Violence Fatality Review Committee with Presiding Judge Nan Waller. Deborah also serves on the County’s Audit Committee.
Prior to being elected to the County Commission, Deborah served in the Oregon Legislature as a State Representative from N/NE Portland from 1999-2004 and was chosen by her peers as House Democratic Leader from 2001-2003.
Deborah is married to Nik Blosser and they are the parents of three children in Portland Public Schools.
