Multnomah County Animal Services participated in the Rose Festival Starlight Parade on June 1 for the first time with its "Pitties in Pink" float.


Mobile Playground Expanded in East Portland

Partnering with the East Portland Action Committee, Commissioner Shiprack has expanded a Mobile Playground program that benefits underserved kids in East Portland.

The expansion will double the Portland Park program, bringing weekly mobile playground visits to ten sites in SE Portland. The program packs vans with structured games, arts, crafts and a nutritious lunch bringing them to underserved children in their own communities.


Multnomah County reopens new and improved Southeast Health Center

Multnomah County will open a new health clinic and pharmacy for southeast Portland residents on Monday, April 22.

The Southeast Health Center, 3653 S.E. 34th, will now offer primary care, behavioral health, pharmacy, laboratory and other support services in addition to the existing dental clinic at that location.


Public health heroes honored for making a difference

The first time Alazar Manning raised money to end AIDS in Portland, the 8-year-old boy asked his dad Rob and his neighbor, Selma, to donate to AIDS Walk Portland which benefits the Cascade AIDS Project. Then he went to his dad’s address book and started calling people. He raised $800.


County kicks off major bed bug awareness campaign

That important message is rolling out across Multnomah County roadways this week on 30 TriMet buses. The king-sized billboards are the heart of a new public awareness campaign to educate people about the bed bug parasites.


Off the street and into housing: Multnomah County and partners help homeless veterans find homes

Nearly 300 chronically homeless veterans have moved into housing since November because of joint effort of Multnomah County, the City of Portland and other community organizations.

Operation 305, named for the 305 rental assistance vouchers available when the effort launched, works to bolster housing efforts by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs by providing flexible funds to help displaced veterans. Home Forward and the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette are the other local partners in the effort.

Commissioners Kafoury, Shiprack and McKeel sworn in for second terms

Three Multnomah County commissioners re-elected for a second term affirmed their commitment to the people of this community during a swearing in ceremony on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Surrounded by their families and friends, Commissioners Deborah Kafoury, Judy Shiprack and Diane McKeel were sworn in by Nan Waller, Multnomah County Circuit Court presiding judge, in front of a packed board room.
