Worker's Compensation

By law, Oregon employers must carry workers’ compensation insurance or be self-insured. Multnomah County is a self-insured employer providing coverage to injured workers, volunteers, and sentenced inmates. Benefits may include payment of medical bills, wage loss and disability.

Oregon has had some kind of workers’ compensation program since 1914. Today’s system is designed to do the following:

  • Prevent or reduce worker injuries and illnesses;
  • Provide appropriate medical treatment and benefits to help injured workers recover and return to work as soon as possible;
  • Resolve disputes quickly and fairly.

Effective August 1, 1997, Multnomah County’s Risk Management Division contracted with two managed care organizations (MCOs) to provide employees with managed care on all new workers’ compensation claims. The MCO’s selected are Kaiser Permanente and Providence MCO.

Please note that for incidents that do not require medical treatment beyond first aid, only the Incident/Accident Analysis worksheet (incident form) is required. Do not complete the entire claim packet unless you have sought medical treatment.
