Staff
We are professionally trained educators who specialize in teaching adults who experience:
- Addiction & recovery issues
- Weak decision-making skills
- Attention deficit disorders
- Negative school experiences
- Learning disabilities
- Low literacy
- Mental illness
- Poor problem solving
We communicate regularly with probation officers, counselors and case workers about client progress. We also offer effective strategies to use when working with offenders who experience learning challenges.
Mission
Our mission at the Londer Learning Center is to contribute to public safety and reduce recidivism by engaging adult offenders in educational programming so that they will gain skills needed to overcome learning challenges, improve reading, writing, math and English, earn a GED, find and keep jobs, assist their children in school, enhance problem solving and emotions management, and sustain positive change in their lives.
Our Students
- 70% at high- to medium-risk to re-offend
- 40% involved in alcohol and drug treatment
- 70% read below 9th grade
- 20% read below 6th grade
- 25% probability of having learning disabilities
- 80% have learning difficulties (vision, memory, attention deficit, etc)
- 70% show learning gains after enrollment
In many adult literacy programs, student persistence and resistance to learning are ongoing difficulties. The Londer program differs in the fact that those who "drop out" may be returning to a life of crime or drug/alcohol abuse.
