What works
Following the recommendations of the National Institute for Literacy and the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy, we offer students:
- No wait to start their program.
- In-depth orientation which includes an assessment, feedback, and scheduling session for all students.
- Identification of learning barriers through assessments in reading and math; vision, hearing, attention, and sensitivity to light.
- Extensive student interviews: Learning challenges feedback helps students develop strategies, identify goals and plan learning.
- Structured multi-sensory instruction for students with low literacy skills.
- Metacognitive skill building to help students "learn to learn" & plan tasks. This is a re-wiring of the brain's information processing systems!
- Collaborative group learning to keep students focused.
- A safe, community atmosphere!
