What works

Following the recommendations of the National Institute for Literacy and the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy, we offer students:

  • No wait to start their program.
  • In-depth orientation which includes an assessment, feedback, and scheduling session for all students.
  • Identification of learning barriers through assessments in reading and math; vision, hearing, attention, and sensitivity to light.
  • Extensive student interviews: Learning challenges feedback helps students develop strategies, identify goals and plan learning.
  • Structured multi-sensory instruction for students with low literacy skills.
  • Metacognitive skill building to help students "learn to learn" & plan tasks. This is a re-wiring of the brain's information processing systems!
  • Collaborative group learning to keep students focused.
  • A safe, community atmosphere!
