Celebrate Collaboration at Franklin High School

Friday, 12/2/11 - 2:16 pm

Multnomah County and Portland Public Schools will celebrate a new collaboration at Franklin High School on Monday, Dec. 12 at 1:30 p.m. Chair Jeff Cogen, Commissioner Judy Shiprack, Health Department Director Lillian Shirley and Portland Superintendent Carole Smith will honor the community coming together on behalf of kids.

When more than 200 Marshall High students transferred to Franklin after a school closure last year, Multnomah County committed to continue serving those children, as well as all Franklin students. Students arriving in September found a new school-based health center -- a first for Franklin -- providing access to primary and mental healthcare to keep students healthy and ready to learn. They also found a SUN community school, the Schools Uniting Neighborhoods team that turns a school into a neighborhood hub by providing education, recreation and event opportunities for students and their families.

Franklin High Principal Shay James and her staff have seen student enrollment rise to 1,500, up from 1,000 last year. With that growth comes an increase in demand for services and support.  Please join us in saluting Franklin High School’s efforts and the efforts of the Portland Children’s Levy, Impact Northwest and other community partners who have made this vital partnership between Multnomah County and Portland Public Schools work.

We’ll gather at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2011 at Franklin High School, 5404 SE Woodward, just south of Division and SE 52nd.
