Over 50 people from Multnomah County and other metro area organizations listened as staff from Central City Concern (CCC) discussed their experience doing outreach to veterans and Latinos. CCC's presentation included descriptions of their best outreach practices and tools, as well as lessons they have learned in the course of doing outreach to diverse populations. A great discussion among presenters and audience members followed CCC's presentation that covered additional ideas for successful outreach.

Expand your outreach toolbox! Join us as Central City Concern (CCC) shares their experiences and nuts & bolts strategies for outreach with diverse populations. CCC seeks to provide comprehensive solutions to end homelessness and achieve self-sufficiency. Their presentation will cover their most successful practices, lessons learned, and the tools they have used to conduct successful outreach, particularly with veterans and Latinos. Networking will follow.
Here's what you said about which services Multnomah County Commissioners should prioritize in the upcoming budget

Over 535 budget surveys were submitted to elicit input about what the county's budget priorities should be, including 39 that were submitted in Spanish. The survey consisted of two questions—one asking respondents to rank the county services most important to them and one asking them to comment on the features they most valued the most about the services they selected. Analysis revealed that respondents wanted the county's budget to prioritize Libraries, Roads and Bridges, and services that were health and human services in nature, like Mental Health.

After receiving extensive information about the programs of county departments and much thoughtful consideration, the county's Citizen Budget Advisory Committees (CBACs) have released their recommendations for the county’s 2012-13 budget. Members of the public serve on the CBACs which independently review and make recommendations on county departmental budgets. They present their recommendations both in writing and direct testimony to the Board of County Commissioners. There are nine different CBACs with one assigned for each major county department or office.
55 outstanding Multco volunteers honored at Volunteer Awards Ceremony!

Balloons, cupcakes and storytelling marked the festivities as Multnomah County honored its most outstanding volunteers at the Volunteer Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, April 18th, in the Multnomah Building Boardroom. The standing room crowd listened as over 50 volunteers had descriptions of their work read aloud prior to receiving their awards. Last fiscal year, volunteers contributed 138,000 volunteer hours to county programs and projects at a value of $3,567,904!
Outstanding Healthcare Advocate wins 18th annual Gladys McCoy Award

Dr. Jill Ginsberg was presented with the 2012 Gladys McCoy Award for lifetime volunteer achievement at the Multnomah County Volunteer Awards Ceremony. Dr. Ginsberg co-founded the North by Northeast Community Health Center in Portland in 2006, which has provided free life-saving health services to thousands of uninsured adults with chronic health conditions like diabetes, hypertension and asthma.
Volunteers are Multnomah County's crown jewels! They provided services worth more than $3.5 million last year!

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners approved a proclamation on Thursday proclaiming April 15th through April 21st, 2012 as Multnomah County Volunteer Week, and April 18th as a special day of recognition for Multnomah County volunteers.
At the meeting, the board members held a poster showing the value of volunteer hours to the county. During fiscal year 2011-12, volunteers dedicated nearly 140,000 volunteer hours to county programs and projects equaling a value of $3,567,904!

The Health System Transformation Forum delivered extensive infomation to attendees. Nearly 55 attendees heard about why transformation is taking place as well as potential changes to the county's delivery of health care services (i.e., creation of Coordinated Care Organizations in the metro area). Presenters included Sean Kolmer from the Governor's Office, and Joanne Fuller and Vanetta Abdellatif from the county. Attendees also had an opportunity to ask complex questions to the presenters.

The McCoy Award is presented annually by the CIC to somebody with outstanding lifetime volunteer service dedicated to improving the Multnomah County community. This year's award winner will be honored by county officials at the County’s Annual Volunteer Award Ceremony on April 18th and their name will appear on a plaque with past winners on permanent public display in the Multnomah County Boardroom. Last chance to weigh in on county budget, take 5-minute survey by Monday

Currently, there's a $3.5 million gap between ongoing revenues and expenses for next year’s budget, but this may increase depending on the State’s budget. All county programs and services may be affected by reductions as the Chair and the Board of County Commissioners make decisions about how to allocate the budget to best carry out the county's mission.
