Sellwood Bridge open house and survey to focus on structure options
Mike Pullen, Public Affairs Office, 503-988-6804, mike.j.pullen@co.multnomah.or.us
An open house will be held for the Sellwood Bridge Project on Wednesday, July 21 from 5:00 to 7:30 pm at Oaks Park Dance Pavilion, 7100 SE Oaks Park Way.
The open house will focus on options for the structure type for the new bridge. Drawings of the bridge types from different views will be on display and the public will be able to ask questions and provide input. Information will be available on the status of the project, its funding plan, refinements that have been made to the Preferred Alternative and the schedule for the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). The event has a drop-in format.
The public can also share their opinions about the bridge type options in an online survey through August 8 at www.sellwoodbridge.org. Descriptions and images of the bridge type options are featured on the project website.
A Preferred Alternative was recommended in 2009 that identified the location, cross section and interchange type for the replacement bridge. Design decisions (including the choice of structure type) will not be made until after the federal government approves the project’s FEIS. A record of decision by the Federal Highways Administration is expected in late summer. Design work should begin in late 2010, with construction likely to start in 2012, if funding can be secured.
MultnomahCounty maintains the Sellwood Bridge, five other Willamette River bridges and 300 miles of roads. For project information, visit www.sellwoodbridge.org.
