MultnomahCounty has scheduled work on two rural paving projects that will impact traffic on Sauvie Island and in east county.  Both projects will require single lane closures on two lane roads.  Flaggers and a pilot car will direct traffic in the single open lane on work days.  County crews will be chip sealing the roads, rolling layers of gravel onto a treatment of hot oil.  The work is weather dependent.

Orient Drive

Paving work is scheduled on SE Orient Drive between SE 282nd Ave. and the Clackamas County line on Thursday, September 2 from 6 am to 6 pm.  Travelers should expect delays of up to twenty minutes.  Drivers can avoid delays by using alternate routes such as Highway 26 or SE 282nd Ave.

Sauvie Island Road

Paving work is scheduled on Sauvie Island Road between the Sauvie Island Bridge and the intersection with Reeder Road.  Work is scheduled on:

  • Wednesday, September 8 from 6 am to noon
  • Thursday, September 9 from 6 am to 4:30 pm
  • Monday, September 13 from 6 am to 2 pm

Until a final paving layer is applied on September 13, signs will remind drivers and bicyclists to reduce speeds and be alert for loose gravel on the roadway. The time between applications is needed for treatments to cure.

Travelers should expect delays of up to twenty minutes during the work.  Gillihan Road will serve as an alternate route to the bridge and Reeder Road.

Multnomah County maintains these sections of Orient Drive and Sauvie Island Road and 300 miles of roads and bridges.   For more information, visit www.multco.us/roads.
