Medicare plan review deadline: December 31
Janet Bowman or Bob Earnest, Multnomah County Aging and Disabilities Services, 503-988-3646
Seniors and people with disabilities face an array of complicated Medicare choices that could impact their personal budgets. Multnomah County will conduct neighborhood events to help individuals compare Medicare prescription drug (Part D) and managed health plans before the December 31, 2010 enrollment deadline.
Multnomah County Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance (SHIBA) staff and volunteers are scheduling individual appointments at locations throughout the community between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31, 2010. Fully trained volunteers will help individuals compare plan details. All assistance is provided free of charge.
"With so many options, people with Medicare can find a plan that fits their needs,” said Janet Bowman, Multnomah County SHIBA coordinator. “You can keep your current plan, or choose a new one, but it takes some research. Will it cover your doctors and the prescriptions you need? Our volunteers can help people evaluate their choices and select the options that work best for them.”
Those with questions may call their plan or 1-800-MEDICARE, go to www.medicare.gov, or attend an enrollment event. To schedule an appointment with Multnomah County SHIBA volunteers, call the Aging and Disability Services Helpline at 503-988-3646.
