Recording Documents

Lobby traffic is exceptionally busy noon to 2:00 pm and 3:45 pm to 4:30 pm.  Expect longer than normal wait times to transact your business when arriving between these hours.

The County Recorder's Office records documents that affect title to real property located in Multnomah County. When a document is received for recording, it is reviewed for compliance with Oregon statutes controlling document types and content. If a document cannot be recorded as presented, it is returned to the sender with an explanation of the deficiency. As a document is recorded, an alphabetical index is created and the image scanned for future retrieval.

This office is prohibited from:

  • Giving legal advice
  • Helping fill out documents. If you need help, you should contact an attorney or title company.
  • Suggesting what type of documents to use
  • Accepting illegible documents
  • Recording documents other than those specified by Oregon and federal law

Fees are required at the time a document is presented for recording and accepted in the following formats only:  cash, check or money order.
