Results
In 2008-09, the 58 SUN Community Schools in operation served:
- 14,733 children and youth in ongoing enrolled classes and activities
- 3,091 adults in adult education, skill-building and school-related classes
- 81,826 people in community and family events and activities.
Showing Results:
Regularly participating students showed strong gains in academics, attendance and behavioral areas:
- 75% increased state benchmark scores in Reading
- 77% increased state benchmark scores in Math
- Average daily school attendance was 95%
- Improving Youth Assets & Interim Academic Outcomes:
- 68& improved in turning in homework on time
- 80% improved in classroom academic performance
- 74% had a more positive attitude toward school
- 67% improved behavior
- 76% improved class participation
- 75% improved in finding alternative resolutions to problems
- 93% of students have at least one adult who cares about them at to whom they can go for help
Bringing in Community and Business resources:
- Over 52,000 volunteer hours contributed by 3,012 community and business volunteers
- Over 350 business and community partners
