On October 9th, 2013 the Multnomah County Health Department released the Climate Change and Public Health Preparation Plan. The plan identifies three key local public health impacts the region is likely to face: increased heat, poorer air quality, and changes to vector borne diseases. The plan also identifies strategies the County, its regional partners, and individuals can take to build local resilience to changes in our climate.

On Friday, Oct. 18 please join the Multnomah County Office of Sustainability for the 2013 Multnomah Food Justice Summit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Portland.

The Bike Commute Challenge is a fun way to inspire yourself and your coworkers to learn the joys of biking. Multnomah County employees have already organized 27 teams so far. You can log on to the Bike Commute Challenge website to join an existing team or create a new team for your building. Once you are registered, start recording your trips throughout September.

Sheriff Dan Staton, with help from Chair Jeff Cogen, celebrated the first harvest of vegetables from the Inverness Jail Garden. The garden is a new initiative of the Sustainable Jails Project (SJP), launched by the Sheriff’s Office in April 2012.
