The 2013 BUFA application period is now closed.

 

Deadlines for Applications

  • Early Bird Registration: Apply no later than December 15, 2012 at 5:00 pm PST for 10% tuition discount (applications must be recieved by this date, not postmarked if mailed)
  • Final Application Deadline: January 13, 2013 by 5:00 pm PST (applications must be received by this deadline, not postmarked if mailed)
  • BUFA 2013 Program starts Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Selection Criteria for All Applicants

1. Must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Must be able to lift 50 pounds
3. Must able to work for up to 7 hours of continuous strenuous outdoor labor.
4. Demonstrated aptitude and/ or expressed desire to: garden or participate in small to large scale farming; documented by expressed interest, experience and/ or education.
5. Demonstrated ability and/ or expressed interest in self-employment, starting and running a small business and/ or community farm projects.
6. Future plans include small or large scale farming in any form.

Program Tracks

TRACK 1 – The full program including classroom, in-field training, field trips and farmers market stand experience.
Cost = $2,700 if you apply before December 15, 2012.
Cost = $3,000 after December 15, 2012.
* Two Work-trade Scholarships and four Full Scholarships are available for TRACK 1.

OR

TRACK 2 – Includes classroom training and field trips only. Track 2 does not include in-field training.
Cost = $1,080 if you apply before December 15, 2012.
Cost = $1,200 after December 15, 2012.
No scholarships available for TRACK 2.

* Work-Trade Scholarships require an additional 125 hours of in-field work through the end of the 2013 program. Apprentices accepted to the program and granted the Work-Trade Scholarship will be responsible for a $100 processing fee. This tuition waiver will be available for 2 students this year in exchange for helping on the farm 1 day per week throughout the season. Prospective work trade students must be available all day Friday or Saturday from May through September. Work trade tasks will include, but are not limited to: Watering, weeding, greenhouse maintenance and weed whacking.

* Full Scholarshipsdo not require additional field-work. This tuition waiver will be available to 4 students this year. Apprentices accepted into the program and granted a full scholarship will be responsible for a $300 processing fee.
