The Intake, Assessment, Informal and Adjudication Team is often the first contact with youth, families, and other agengies. The Intake/Intervention Team is set up to provide services, sanctions, and consistent intervention while handling cases swiftly, equitably and consistently utilizing strength based strategies.

Intake Services

The assigned Juvenile Court Counselor provides “Front door” walk-in and phone intake services by providing valuable information and referral services to the public.

Assessment Services

Juvenile Court Counselors in this unit identify a youth’s level of risk by meeting with families, schools and other important members of the youth support system, to develop an action plan that will interrupt their pattern of illegal and harmful behavior.

Informal Services

Once an action plan has been developed and agreed upon.  The youth, Juvenile Court Counselor and family meet on a regular basis to assure positive changes.  If after 3-6 months if the youth has completed all the conditions of the plan and has not acquired any new charges the youth has the opportunity to have their record expunged once they turn 18.

Adjudication Services

This unit works with youth who have formal charges filed.  These are petitions filed by the district attorney’s office and allege illegal behavior.  The Juvenile Court Counselor provides written and oral reports to the court for the purpose of sentencing.
