Interested in learning small-scale farming while developing connections with the partners who make up our local food system?
Multnomah County’s Office of Sustainability will host an open house to share information about its Beginning Urban Farmer Apprenticeship program from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Learning Gardens Laboratory, 6801 S.E. 60th Ave., Portland. Meet program instructors, past students and take a tour of one of the county’s urban farms during the open house.
Registration for the program is open until Sunday, Dec. 1.
The Beginning Urban Farmer Apprenticeship is a seven-month program conducted as a partnership between Multnomah County and Oregon State University Extension Service that offers garden and urban-scale farming education to our community’s next generation of:
- farmers
- nonprofit garden managers
- leaders in the local food justice movement
- entrepreneurs interested in food production-based small business
The primary focus of the program is intensive vegetable production in urban and community settings. Instructors want to teach participants how to produce as much as possible in the smallest space possible.
